Volunteering in Omaha
That might be a little deceiving. The place is amazing but the staff works tirelessly to get people prepared to pursue life away from poverty. That's a pretty good perspective.
I spent my time volunteering in the shop they have on campus which sells anything from fridges to clothes to office supplies. The residents, and some locals, are able to earn cash to spend there, and are given an allowance per month: one 50 gallon trash bag, filled to the brim with anything they need.

Thankfully I was able to arrange a last minute connection and had a roof over my head that night. The commute to Kansas the next morning probably saw another 3 inches drop down.
On my way, I stopped at a gas station which sold hunting gear, a plethora of fireworks, and had a bar. Great combination of ideas...
